Disneyland’s Lightning Lanes are a bit different from the Lightning Lanes at Walt Disney World. I think the Disneyland version is easier and less stressful to use than Lightning Lanes at Walt Disney World.
There are two main differences between Lightning Lane Multi Pass at the two destinations.
The first difference is when you can purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass. At Disneyland, you can purchase it with your park ticket, while at Walt Disney World, you cannot purchase Lightning Lane passes until 7 days before your arrival date if you are staying on property, or 3 days before your arrival date if you are staying off property.
The second difference is when you can select your first attraction. At Disneyland, you don’t select your first attraction until after you have entered the park for the day. At Walt Disney World, you can make Lightning Lane selections in advance.
Today, I’m sharing what I learned about Disneyland’s Lightning Lane Multi Pass (LLMP).
Single Pass Attractions
There are two attractions at Disneyland Resort that have a Single Pass option, which you purchase separately from Lightning Lane Multi Pass:
- Radiator Springs Racers at Disney California Adventure
- Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Disneyland
These attractions are not included with Lightning Lane Multi Pass.
Selecting Your First Lightning Lane
After you scan into the park you have a reservation for, you can select your first Lightning Lane attraction within the Disneyland app.
My suggestion is to select one of the more popular Lightning Lane attractions for the park you are visiting.

Don’t Panic If Your Lightning Lane Is Sooner Than You Expected
Once you make your selection, don’t panic, like I did, if the time you are given is within the next two hours and the attraction only has a 15-minute wait.
Anytime an attraction has a wait of less than 20 minutes, I don’t think it is a good use of your Lightning Lane. After all, you purchased Lightning Lane Multi Pass to avoid standing in the longer lines.
The good news is that you can modify your Lightning Lane return time throughout the day.
I did this with a Haunted Mansion Lightning Lane. When it was time to ride Haunted Mansion, the attraction showed a 13-minute wait—aka, no wait at all. So, I modified my Lightning Lane to a later time in the evening. I continued modifying it until a time became available after Fantasmic!
What to Do While You’re Waiting for Your Next Lightning Lane
While you are waiting for the next opportunity to select your next Lightning Lane, go explore the park and ride some attractions that don’t have a Lightning Lane option.
My suggestion for the morning is to ride any and all of the attractions in Fantasyland.
For example, I was able to ride:
- Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride
- King Arthur Carrousel
- Alice in Wonderland
- Peter Pan’s Flight
- Pinocchio’s Daring Journey
- Snow White’s Enchanted Wish
- Storybook Land Canal Boats
I was able to ride all of these attractions before my next Lightning Lane selection was available.
Of course, this is going to vary based on the crowds in the park. However, Disneyland is more of a “locals” park, and from my experience, the mornings are usually less crowded than the afternoons and evenings.
Why I Love Fantasyland in the Morning
At Disneyland, the Fantasyland attractions are very close together. You can get off one attraction and be in line for the next one within a few short minutes. There is very little wasted time traveling from one attraction to another within Fantasyland.
In addition, most Fantasyland attractions don’t have a Lightning Lane option. Because of this, I find that the lines can move relatively quickly. My rule of thumb is that if the posted wait time is 20 minutes or less, it is worth waiting in the standby line.
Selecting Your Next Lightning Lane
Once two hours have passed, or you have used a Lightning Lane, (whichever comes first) it’s time to select your next Lightning Lane attraction. I suggest picking another popular Lightning Lane attraction.
If you haven’t already modified your first attraction for later in the day, now is also a good time to modify it. Just remember that you need to modify the return time before your Lightning Lane expires.
You Can Make Another Selection After Using Your Lightning Lane
Once you scan into a Lightning Lane attraction, you can select another Lightning Lane attraction.
For example, I redeemed my Lightning Lane for Indiana Jones Adventure, and while I was walking through the queue, I was already selecting my next Lightning Lane attraction. If you have a Park Hopper ticket, you can select a Lightning Lane attraction in either park throughout the day. This is a great benefit because you don’t have to limit your Lightning Lane selections to the park where you started your day.
You Can Only Use Each Lightning Lane Attraction Once Per Day
One important thing to keep in mind about Disneyland’s Lightning Lanes is that you can only use a Lightning Lane selection for the same attraction one time per day.
For example, if you select Haunted Mansion and use that Lightning Lane at 10:00 a.m., you cannot select Haunted Mansion again with Lightning Lane Multi Pass later that same day. You can, of course, experience the attraction again by using the standby line if you want to ride it a second time.

Is Lightning Lane Multi Pass Worth It at Disneyland?
I hope this helps you decide whether or not to purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass for your Disneyland vacation.
Personally, I found the Disneyland version of Lightning Lane Multi Pass to be easier and less stressful than the Walt Disney World system. With a little planning and some flexibility, you can experience quite a few attractions while minimizing the amount of time you spend waiting in line.
And remember, you don’t have to use your Lightning Lane selection the moment it becomes available. Take advantage of the ability to modify your return times and plan your day around the attractions and experiences you want to enjoy.
